Assignment (Hourglass)

Hourglass

I want to fly away and stand up
And be LOUD
These chains try to help
But they just hold me down

As I plan and re-plan
I cry for the things
That are now only ghosts
But once mattered to me

I plan and re-plan
And I cling to the past
This cloud is too high
To see the hourglass

In the past or the future
But never in the now
I don't see the hourglass
Until it runs out

  1. Fantastic! The "ow" sound pulls together and makes a cohesive thread throughout the whole poem. Love the sentiment, too.

  2. I love this poem! I especially like
    "I cry for the things
    That are now only ghosts
    But once mattered to me".
